Building Envelope

The building envelope is often an overlooked item when it comes to building operations and energy evaluation. We provide a three pronged approach to rating a building envelope and locating areas of energy loss. To accomplish this we use blower doors, thermal imaging equipment, and digital meters that can calculate U-values for walls and windows.

Blower door testing and U Value calculation for Envelope Evaluation.

Blower Door Testing

Blower doors allow us to determine the tightness of a building envelope. The blower door pressurizes or depressurizes the building and allows us to calculate the envelope leakage rate. If the envelope leakage rate is unacceptable the leaks in the envelope are found with thermal imaging and smoke tests. As these areas are located they can then be evaluated and repaired to provide a seal from the exterior elements and interior space.

U-Value Measuring

One Stop energy Services use state of the art technology to measure the actual u-value of a wall assembly. This becomes valuable in both the commissioning of new buildings and evaluation of existing buildings. For new construction it provides verification that the actual construction of the walls meets that which was specified. In existing buildings it allows the actual U-value to be determined and areas where the u-value should be increased. In both situations it provides the building owner with accurate and reliable data about the building construction.

Thermal Imaging determines areas of Energy Loss

Thermal Imaging

With thermal imaging of the building envelope many unseen issues can be located such as poorly insulated wall areas, areas of air leakage due to poor caulking, or areas of water intrusion into the building. One Stop Energy Services will perform a detailed scan of the building envelope to locate these areas of energy loss. Minimizing these losses is a key step in reducing energy usage and improving comfort in every building.
